The salt-water well is a gift from the king of the sea, named Ocean and Poseidon by the Greeks, Mananan mac Lir by the Irish, and a host of other names throughout the world. He is always shown with a trident, the tool with which he gifted the Athenians with their salt-water well. The well is a gateway to the mystic realm of Ocean, an elemental zone of dreamtime. The sea king intended for us to use his gift to travel, to become invisible, and to draw mystic power to perform wonders. The Athenians failed to see its purpose, wrongly dismissing it as a useless blight upon their landscape.
